A Great Night Raising £350 For A Good Cause

Harriette Elizabeth Hickey is trekking in Peru from Cusco to Machu Picchu in August this year in aid of Worldwide Cancer Research, she has done amazingly so far with her fundraising but her family thought it would be a good idea to get everyone together to help raise even more money for this incredible charity which is very close to their hearts.

They hired out the SVRA Community Centre Hall on 11th April for a Fun family quiz

Harriette thanked everyone who came to the quiz, and especially Caroline Boyes for making it possible.
She added, it was a great evening and the generosity was astounding!
This money will mean specialists from all over the world can work together in order to improve treatments and hopefully one day cure cancer for good!
Thank you again for your support and well done to the winners!!
We hope you had a great night!!

Quiz night

The winning team, but Worldwide Cancer Research are the real winners!

Just goes to show it isn’t just at Christmas that gifts are given!

Just before Christmas the Southcott Village Residents Association (S.V.R.A.) community club presented a cheque of £1000.00 to the Leighton – Linslade Street Pastors (LLSP), after hearing through one of their members how one of our newest volunteers with the Street Pastors spends some of her Saturday evenings out on the town, not as most might presume in revelry and enjoyment, but in another kind of enjoyment, that of Listening, Caring and Helping for others who might be found ‘worse for wear’ or needing assistance whether that be in the form of a person to speak to or just be with them as they wait for a taxi.

Wanting to know more the S.V.R.A. committee got in touch with myself, Griff the LLSP Coordinator to find out more about what Street Pastors are doing in our local community. When it was explained that we were all volunteers who went out once a month to walk the streets of Leighton and Linslade from 10 pm to 4 am most Saturdays, and the amount of training the volunteers took part in to fulfil their role as a Street Pastor the committee, was so bowled over they decided that they would not only be giving a one off donation but also commit to supporting Leighton – Linslade Street Pastors for the next 12 months, this bringing together the heart of the community, S.V.R.A. with those who want to Care for that heart LLSP.

Thank you Southcott Village Residents Association for putting the heart backing into Caring for the community, through supporting Leighton – Linslade Street Pastors.

Sharon Kleeman, chairperson of the S.V.R.A. commented, “The S.V.R.A. supports a specified charity, preferably a local one, each calendar year and seeks to do so in various ways throughout the year. So, when we became aware of the excellent work that they do in our town on Saturday evenings, we had little hesitation in adopting Leighton – Linslade Street Pastors as our sponsored charity for 2015. We look forward to raising not only further funds but also LLSP’s profile within the local area during the remainder of the year”.
